About this project

The three megawatt storage system in the largest multifunctional stadium in the Netherlands ensures a more reliable and efficient energy supply and energy use for the stadium, visitors, neighbors and the Dutch energy grid. By combining Eaton's energy distribution system and the 148 Nissan LEAF batteries, the energy storage system not only provides a more sustainable energy system, it also creates a circular economy for electric vehicle batteries.

Project Targets

KPI 1

The 3 megawatt storage system provides since 2018 a more reliable and efficient energy supply and usage for the stadium, its visitors, neighbors and the Dutch energy grid. The energy storage system currently plays an important role in balancing supply and demand of energy in the Johan Cruijff ArenA. Starting 2024, an additional 6 megawatt energy storage system will be installed and extend the capacity, enabling usage of sustainable energy as intelligent and stable as possible.
